PAYPHONES & ASHTRAYs

released, october 6, 2020

Payphones and Ashtrays is the new record from Boston indie-rockers, The Big Lonesome. Following in the footsteps of their tireless DIY ethos, the band self-produced the new full-length record in basements and living rooms, sandwiched between self-booked national tours, and the launch of their multi-city, Do-it-With-Others music collective, Dream Coast Collective.

The title of the record refers to artifacts from a world that no longer exist; the analog childhood and the digital adulthood of modern life. Chad Gosselin’s lyrics explore and provoke important conversations on the role (and an ever growing reliance) on technology, monogamy, depression, addictions and the role of the creative in a society that undervalues their skills. Sonically, the band explores new ground with layers of synthesizers and found sounds, fuzzed out guitars and a precarious marriage between lo-fi and hi-fi.
